Glow-in-the-Dark Paint to Enhance Visibility of Road Markings
No matter how good your vision is, driving at night can be more challenging than driving in daylight conditions. One reason for this is that road markings can be harder to see in the dark of night. And it can be even more challenging to see the markings when it’s also foggy or rainy. That is where glow-in-the-dark road markings might be able to help out.
As part of a pilot test in Victoria, Australia, glow-in-the-dark road markings will be installed on selected roads. The lane markings will be refreshed using photoluminescent paint, which should be much more visible in dark and other low-visibility conditions.
Photoluminescent paint, such as used on the faces of tactical watches, might prove to be a substantial enhancement for nighttime driving. We’ll have to stay tuned for the results!
