Route 66 in Missouri to Feature Roads Made from Solar Panels
Later in 2016, Missouri will lead the way in testing sections of roads made from solar panels. The panels will capture energy from the sun, and provide self-illuminating road markings and signage. Each modular panel will allow for quick repairs, an advantage over the traditional approach of repaving entire sections of roadway.
Created by Solar Roadways, the panels are very strong, and will be fitted along the Historic Route 66 (“Get Your Kicks…!”). After utilizing Federal research grants to fund initial development, the company is using crowdfunding campaign to obtain the full amount of funding needed to move ahead with the project.
