Florida enacts 41st statewide driver texting ban
Near the end of May, Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed legislation making his state the 41st to ban texting while driving.
The Florida law, which becomes effective Oct. 1, is the second texting ban enacted this year and will be enforced as a secondary offense. AAA initiated a campaign to outlaw driver texting in all states in 2009, when only 18 states banned the practice.
The remaining nine states are Arizona, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, South Carolina and Texas.
AAA Driver Training Programs has a number of resources that illustrate the dangers of texting while driving.
